Description
A quick and delicious fusion of grilled cheese and hot dogs cooked to crispy, melty perfection in the air fryer.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 hot dog buns (brioche recommended)
- 4 hot dogs (beef, turkey, or plant-based)
- 8 slices American cheese (or preferred cheese)
- 2 tablespoons softened butter
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
- 1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh chives (optional)
- Cooking spray (olive oil based)
Instructions
- Preheat air fryer to 350°F (175°C) for 3 minutes.
- Slice a deep pocket in each hot dog bun without cutting through. Spread softened butter on the outside, sprinkle garlic powder if using.
- Place one slice of cheese inside each bun, add a hot dog, then top with another slice of cheese.
- Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Place sandwiches in basket without overcrowding.
- Cook at 350°F for 3-4 minutes, flip with tongs, then cook another 2-3 minutes until cheese melts and buns are golden and crispy.
- Let rest 1-2 minutes before serving. Sprinkle with chives if desired.
Notes
- Avoid overcrowding for even cooking.
- Use room temperature butter for easy spreading.
- Flip sandwiches halfway through cooking.
- Let sandwiches rest to prevent cheese from spilling out.
- Store leftovers wrapped in foil in fridge up to 2 days; reheat in air fryer for best texture.
- Customize with healthier ingredient swaps or add-ins like bacon or jalapeños.
