How to Make Limonada de Coco

Colombian Coconut Limeade (Limonada de Coco)

  • Author: Ava
  • Total Time: 10 minutes
  • Yield: 2-3 servings 1x
  • Diet: Gluten Free

Description

Limonada de Coco is a refreshing Colombian beverage that combines the tangy flavor of fresh lime juice with the creamy richness of coconut milk. This tropical drink is both sweet and tangy, offering a dessert-like quality with its frosty texture. Perfect for hot summer days, parties, or anytime you want a taste of the tropics.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ½ cup freshly squeezed lime juice (from about 45 limes)
  • 1 can (13.5 oz) coconut milk (full-fat preferred for creaminess)
  • ¼ cup sweetened condensed milk or granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 2 cups ice
  • ½ cup cold water (optional, for thinning)
  • Lime slices and shredded coconut for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Roll limes on the countertop with your palm to release more juice, then slice in half and extract juice until you have ½ cup.
  2. Add lime juice, coconut milk, sweetened condensed milk or sugar, and ice to a blender. Add up to ½ cup cold water if needed for consistency.
  3. Blend on high for 30-60 seconds until silky-smooth, frothy, and ice is fully crushed.
  4. Taste and adjust sweetness or tanginess as desired by adding more sweetened condensed milk/sugar or lime juice.
  5. Pour into tall, chilled glasses and garnish with lime slices and shredded coconut if desired.
  6. Serve immediately for best taste and texture.

Notes

  • Use fresh lime juice for the best flavor; bottled juice can taste flat and artificial.
  • Chill coconut milk and limes beforehand for an even frostier drink.
  • For a thicker consistency, add more ice.
  • Adjust sweetener gradually to find your ideal balance.
  • For an alcoholic version, add a splash of white rum before serving.
  • Leftover Limonada de Coco can be poured into ice pop molds for a frozen treat.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours.
  • For a vegan option, use coconut or almond-based condensed milk or a plant-based sweetener.
